Before starting the course i had a faint idea about traditional Elizabethan ideals but not really anything on the New Elizabethans. I knew that Elizabethan women and men had very different beauty ideas to ours today. I know they used poisonous cosmetics which made their faces rot and made them really ill. But apart from that I don't really know anything about the cosmetics side to the Elizabethans. From looking at paintings and portraits of the Elizabethans, including Queen Elizabeth herself, I can see they were all very pale and would have had to wear some extreme white products to be that pale. They didn't seem to wear any eye or any lip products. This may be because they didn't have to products to create an eyeshadow or may be because they wanted to stay as natural and pale as possible. I also noticed they all had very painted on rosey cheeks, which were obviously fake. Although it looks like they didn't wear anything on their lips, they are quite pink so they may have used something to tint them slightly but not too obviously.
