BASES

In one of our first practical makeup lessons we looked at different bases (foundations and concealers). Sue gave us some information about how the bases should look. She mentioned that you shouldn't be able to see the foundation on the face and that if the model has a tan, you need to match the face to the neck and body. She gave us information about how to apply makeup in different climates. In a very hot climate you should use sunblock instead of moisturiser. You should always match the foundation to the environment.

Sue taught us that it is very important to cover every part of the body that's showing, including the arms, legs, ears, neck and obviously the face. In the practical she said it's important to put the foundation on before the concealer. There shouldn't be layers of foundation on the skin as the aim is for it to natural. The concealer should be 1/2 shades lighter than the foundation and shouldn't be used on blemishes.

I started of by cleansing, toning and moisturising Olivia's face.

I then put some satin primer on the back of my hand and mixed 2 different colour foundations into it until it matched Olivia's skin. I tested the colour on the bottom of the jaw until it matched.

I worked the foundation in with a brush, starting on the nose working my way out. I gave Olivia instructions on how to position her head or how to keep her eyes closed or lips.

I made sure Olivia stretched her neck up so i matched the colour of her face.
I carefully went underneath the eye and all over the eyelid. Also, in and around the ear.

When making the concealer I used a lighter, more yellowy colour and applied it in the areas that looked darker or on a spot.

I finally buffed the face well for a good 5 minutes and then pressed on some white Illamasqua powder.
